Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity holds a special place in our hearts (that was probably obvious if you read this), and getting back to the Centre for our sixth consecutive Midsummer Ball was one of the highlights of our season yet again. It’s such an incredible opportunity to dive into a cause we so wholeheartedly believe in, finding ways each year to drive support for the Centre and its artists, programming, and initiatives.
This year we were excited to be more involved than ever by co-producing in addition to sponsoring, and that meant a role that included really guiding the strategy for guest experience during the event. In addition to conceiving a design that played off a beautiful mountain illustration and connected guests with the Centre’s natural setting, we were able to really analyze the experience, build in incredible, shareable moments with performers connected to the Centre, and enhance the fundraising aspects of the weekend in a way that felt experiential and motivating.
Working in a venue that’s literally tucked in among the Rocky Mountains is not something you take for granted, no matter how many times you get to do it; when a doe and two fawns wandered right through our setup, you better believe we stopped what we were doing to marvel at the magic of this place. Of course, Mother Nature playing such a large role comes with not just these quiet moments of wildlife watching, but weather contingency plans, bug wars, and unique load-in and strike challenges. All said and done, this is a place that will make a nature-lover out of the most dedicated city dweller, and it certainly did not disappoint this year with clear skies for taking in those epic views.
Finally, we can’t miss nodding our caps to Fabloomosity, our floral vendor for this event, who never ceases to stop us in our tracks with what they can create. Florals played a major role in the décor concept, and not only did Fabloomosity capture our design vision perfectly, but they managed to keep the florals fresh with no cooler space available, and reimagined over the three days without fully switching things out. These folks are pros, and we see that again every time we work together.
