There’s a new hotel in town, and while this might be useful for staycations or a place to put up your family over holidays, the bigger news for event profs is the event space that the Westin Calgary Airport Hotel and Conference Centre is bringing to the table. We brought a photographer to the Westin in order to bring you a first look at everything this very chic and super functional new venue has on offer.

In a press release, Sukhi Rai, President of PHI Hotel Group, says, “The Westin Calgary Airport Hotel and Conference Centre, and particularly the capacity of the meeting space will fill a gap in the Calgary airport area, better serving the meeting and convention segment.” With the hotel boasting over 30,000 square feet of functional space, including the largest hotel conference room ballroom in Calgary at 16,620 square feet, this statement rings pretty true to our ears. This large ballroom comes with an additional 4,500 square-foot space for use prior to your event in the ballroom, a space that makes a grand impression in its own right with floor to ceiling windows, streamlined but comfortable seating, and a view into a courtyard.

The conference centre itself features 18-foot ceilings and movable wall panels, giving event profs the space and flexibility to dream big.

The rest of the five-story hotel is as impressive as the event space, and your guests will enjoy peeking around the lobby and lounge or, should they be lucky enough to be staying in one the 247 guest rooms or 17 suites, taking in a view of downtown Calgary or Nose Hill. The Westin Calgary Airport is jointly owned by PHI Hotel Group and Siksika Resource Development, and beautiful local indigenous artwork is displayed throughout the spaces in a nod to this important relationship.

One of our favourite features is the stunning vertical garden that climbs up an entire wall in the lounge, which Kerrie Buist, Corporate Regional Director of Sales & Marketing at PHI Group, told us was designed to “not only beautify your environment but also help relieve stress and purify the air we share.” The combination of natural light pouring in from large windows and the bright green burst of plants transforms the lounge space and makes it feel like you’ve stepped into a secret garden hideaway… one that serves drinks.

Thank you to our friends at the new Westin Calgary Airport Hotel and Convention Centre for letting us explore and photograph their exciting new space. If you’re planning an event that you think would be perfect for this new venue, we can tell you from experience that working here is a pleasure – give us a call or drop us a note, and we’d love to tell you more.
