Overview
The Calgary Stampede Presidents Event is an annual celebration that honours key stakeholders, donors, sponsors, and community leaders who help shape the legacy of the Calgary Stampede. In 2025, the event also marked Stuart O’Connor’s first year as President and Chair of the Board while showcasing the newly opened SAM Centre Calgary as a year round cultural destination and premier event venue.
Hosted at the SAM Centre and Enbridge Plaza in Calgary, the evening was intentionally designed without formal speeches, focusing instead on connection, creativity, and celebration.
OneWest Events led the creative direction, event design, and decor for this milestone corporate celebration in Calgary.
Inspired by the western horizon at golden hour, where silhouettes of riders meet the warm glow of a prairie sunset, the design concept blended natural textures with elevated Western detailing. A palette of golden ambers, soft rusts, and warm neutrals was layered with refined touches of red and blue that subtly reflected Stampede heritage.
Wooden pergolas draped in café lighting anchored the Enbridge Plaza tent, creating intimate gathering spaces beneath a soft glowing canopy. Low profile Western floral arrangements incorporated grasses and organic textures, allowing open sightlines while reinforcing the grounded prairie aesthetic. Lanterns and warm ambient lighting highlighted lounge areas and culinary stations, encouraging natural movement and conversation throughout the space.
Guests arrived through the north entrance of the SAM Centre, moving through gallery features and registration before transitioning into the celebration tent. Throughout the evening, optional tours invited guests to explore the immersive storytelling experiences within the SAM Centre, including the cinematic feature Sensation, historic archives, and interactive installations.
Live performances rotated between venues, including JUNO nominated roots artist Kyle McKearney, Foxx Worthee, the Calgary Fiddlers, and Trick Roper Bud Edgar. An AI photobooth activation invited guests to become part of their own Stampede poster, blending heritage with innovation.
Chef led action stations and full bar service, including a smoked cocktail feature, were thoughtfully integrated into the environment. The design ensured food and beverage experiences felt intentional while maintaining seamless guest flow between the SAM Centre and Enbridge Plaza.
Layered textures, thoughtful lighting, and intentional spatial planning created a contemporary Western atmosphere that was warm, refined, and unmistakably Calgary Stampede.
Impact
The 2025 Calgary Stampede Presidents Event strengthened relationships with the Stampede’s most valued supporters while positioning the SAM Centre Calgary as a premier cultural venue and event space.
By removing formal programming and allowing design, hospitality, and storytelling to lead the experience, the evening felt authentic, elevated, and deeply connected to more than 100 years of Western heritage.
The result was more than a reception. It was a golden hour celebration of legacy, leadership, and community brought to life through intentional event design and decor by OneWest Events.
